How it works

Supporting this international VCS (Verified Carbon Standards) project makes it possible to reduce the CO₂ emissions produced by the supply of energy and steam for fertilization processes. The project activity includes the co-generation of electricity and heat, in the form of steam. Heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) use waste heat from gas turbines to produce steam that would normally be produced through a heat-only process. Avoiding the release of condensation heat into the atmosphere saves fuel and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This cogeneration plant project generates many types of impact for the surrounding area. In addition to capturing nearly 120,000 tons of CO₂, the project improves access to healthcare and the standard of living of the surrounding population. Women in the area have access to various professional training courses and the company has first aid and security facilities, with which it supports the city's civil administration. An important part of the project involves the installation of a filter system that benefits about 10,000 local residents. The developers have also developed a children's park to give local communities a healthier environment for families. The park covers an area of 125 x 500 yards (114 x 457 meters). In addition, the project has led to the construction of a primary and secondary school for the community, with a capacity of 1,000 students.

Where does it develop?

The project is located in the province of Punjab, in the heart of Pakistan. Thanks to the production of renewable electricity, Pakarab Fertilizer reduces the company's emissions by 120 thousand tons of CO₂ per year.

The certifications

The project, certified by Verra, assigns to Pakarab the carbon credits related to the CO₂ saved thanks to the generation of renewable energy.
