How it works
Financing and supporting this project means contributing to the proper conduct of reforestation activities and care of green areas. Healthy forests that are well followed in their growth path help the planet to adapt to a climate that is changing: a team of experts periodically carries out environmental assessments and impact investigations and, based on the results obtained from the studies, develops management and monitoring plans for the restoration of natural systems. Thanks to the initiative, the biodiversity hosted by the area is protected through the constant monitoring of the species that inhabit it and the local population is involved with the “School Project”: a program of informative presentations and workshops aimed at teachers, students and community members to learn about the environment and the care of native fauna and flora.
Where does it develop?
The project is located in the central-northern region of Uruguay, covering an area of 20,000 hectares, and 127 thousand tons of CO₂ are captured annually.
The certifications
Guanarè monitors and protects the more than 320 animal species that live in the project area, such as the long-nosed southern armadillo. Armadillos are at risk of extinction, in Uruguay we observe the last wild colonies of this species. The project has therefore obtained the CCB (Climate, Community and Biodiversity) certification from Verra.
Benefits
The local population is involved with the “School Project”: a program of informative presentations and workshops aimed at teachers, students and community members to learn about the environment and the care of native fauna and flora.
